- To generate "Who to Follow" suggestions based on profile visit patterns
- To analyse platform performance and improve features (via PostHog — pseudonymised)
- To send you important platform notifications
- To comply with applicable Indian law
04 Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored and processed using the following services:
- MongoDB Atlas
- Better Auth
- Redis
- Cloudflare R2
- PostHog
- Sentry
Security measures include end-to-end encrypted messages, password hashing, rate limiting, IP-based blocking, session management, security headers, and error monitoring.
05 Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We share data only in these limited circumstances:
- Service providers — Better Auth, MongoDB Atlas, Cloudflare, Redis — solely to operate the platform.
- Analytics — PostHog receives pseudonymised usage data (no names or emails).
- Legal requirements — When we are legally required to do so under applicable Indian law (such as the IT Act 2000 or DPDP Act 2023), and only to the minimum extent required.
- Safety — To prevent imminent harm to any person.
06 Location Data
Wavmate collects your approximate location (country and region) from your IP address for the Nearby Feed, Map View, and location-based discovery. Enable or disable precise location in Settings → Location.
07 Messages & Encryption
Private messages on Wavmate are end-to-end encrypted. Only you and the recipient can read them. Wavmate cannot access the content of your messages.
08 Search Data
Search queries are stored to return relevant results and improve search relevance. Search data is retained for 90 days. To request deletion, email [email protected].
09 Your Rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 (India), you have the right to access, correct, delete, and port your data. Contact [email protected] to exercise any right. We respond within 30 days.
10 Data Retention
Data is retained while your account is active. Account deletion is processed within 30 days. Messages are deleted immediately. Moderation and audit logs are retained for 12 months.
11 Children & Minors
Wavmate is for users aged 16 and above. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a minor has an account, email [email protected].
12 Changes to This Policy
We will notify you via the platform or email at least 7 days before material changes take effect. Continued use after that date means you accept the updated policy.
